Epiphany calling

Year 4As Epiphany approaches, the three wise men will discover the future king in a stable and present him with their gifts of gold, myrrh and frankincense. Next time you are passing the telephone box on Church Street, listen carefully as there is an urgent phone call taking place.  Melchior, one of the wise men from the East, is speaking to his camel driver to make sure everything is ready for their journey back home...

Hello, is that you Absalom?

Yes my lord, is everything alright?

Yes we’re all fine, but we need to hurry!

We visited King Herod because, as the  prophesy foretold, the baby is a future king and we expected to find him in the palace.

And did you find him there?

No, King Herod told us to go to Bethlehem to find the infant and bring word to him so he could visit too.

So you went to Bethlehem?

Yes we did, it’s not far, and we found him!  He’s called Jesus!  We gave him our gifts of gold, myrrh and frankincense.  That bit was wonderful, but I’m puzzled, because, well, I know this sounds stupid, but, er, we all three dreamed the same dream, we dreamed that God came and told us not to go back to King Herod, so we didn’t.

Anyway, we’re on our way back. Get the camels ready!  Herod may come after us!  I think he may try to harm the baby if he knows where he is!  So we’ll be there as soon as we can.

Yes my lord, the camels will be ready.
